Mike’s Metaverse Musings - No Bruceverse, but maybe a Sonyverse?

That Springsteen sold his recorded pieces and publishing rights to Sony for half a billion is great for the Boss, but so far a missed opportunity for the metaverse, or is it?

I’ve been debating whether if Springsteen had fractionalised and community-tokenised those assets, he might have raised the same amount (~$550m) or more?

Sure there’s potentially upcoming capital gains tax in the U.S., and his career long association with Sony, but humour me for a moment.

Let’s assume he sold tokens to 170,000 holders at $3k a shot. That would add to $550m and doesn't seem like a big ask when you look at the size of his fan base/following.

According to website "The Light in Darkness", Bruce has:

  • FACEBOOK FOLLOWERS: 2.4 million

  • TWITTER FOLLOWERS: 278,000

A no-brainer, surely he would crush those numbers in a non-fungible token (NFT) sale?

On top of that he could have issued founder NFTs to the E Street band as a thank you for their lifelong collaboration.

So it seems to me there could have been a metaverse play here, subject of course to a bunch of other things that are probably not trivial, including potential upcoming taxes on unrealised capital gains, etc., if relevant.

Buy maybe the opportunity is still there, for Sony.

What if Sony made/issued a NFT where we the holders get to choose which artists we want in our bundled NFT, and we then get to share in those rights forever, in exchange for some #eth?

Surely, Sony's value creation and longevity would be enhanced, as would that of our most prolific and followed artists - and the community would be rewarded for its part via increasing token prices (the net present value of future royalties from the works in your specifically designed NFT) and fan benefits like discounted tickets, artist/fan forums, VR concerts, etc.

Bring it Bruce Sony!
